Dollar Tree prism

 Friday night I decided to organize and put all of my polishes on a spreadsheet while the boys played video games. My nail polish area was a complete disaster and I figured I would still be hanging out with them while cleaning. Well four hours later it was 2am and I had cataloged all the polish and did a mani while the boys took over the world or whatever they were playing. I was shocked to get the final count on my polishes. 370! WOW! How did they multiply like that? No wonder 7 plastic shoe boxes are overflowing. I think it is definitely time to look into alternate storage.

I have so many untrieds and it was already after 1am so I decided to use Random.org to pick my next polish. It picked #270 Which is Sally Hansen Nail Prisms Purple Diamond. I picked this up in North Florida at the Dollar Tree. I didn't want to use it alone so I picked out another untried Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Black Satin to use under it. I picked it up at Target on clearance. I wasn't sure how it would look but at 1:30 I was feeling adventurous.

I started with one coat of Black Satin. I was not prepared for the huge brush on this one since I don't have any other Rimmel polishes. It is quite wide and I think it made application a pain in the booty. The polish was a one coater but the brush made my life difficult. I then put a coat of Purple Diamond on top. I used a thick coat but apparently the lighting in my room isn't that great because when I looked at it the next morning I could see streaks and unevenness. I thought one coat would be enough but I should have gone with two.

You can see I also had a little cleanup issue on my middle finger. I think the brush got a little too enthusiastic about cleaning up that nail.

In  the light you can see the prisim-ness of this polish. It is actually really pretty but my camera didn't want to cooperate.

You can see it a little better in these two pictures but not much. My bf asked me why I was taking pictures of my hand while I should be driving. For the record we were at a red light. Usually I just take the pictures when I am parked in front of work or my house but this light was one of those lights to leave a shopping center parking lot and was taking FOREVER.

I ordered my BOGO Zoya polishes Monday and on Tuesday used my bf's account (he had gotten me one of the promotions once as a surprise) to order a couple for my friend in Holland who can't take part in the Zoya promotions any other way. She picked out Breezi and Phoebe. I was surprised when her two polishes arrived yesterday but I am assuming since it was a smaller order it was easier for them to get out. I expect mine to arrive next week.

They are very pretty and I was dying to try them out. I can't wait for the ones I ordered to come in.

Yikes that will push my collection closer to 400.

I wish that I had Jesse's Girl

Wait I do have Jesse's Girl. Wait, even better I have Jesse's Girl's Crush! I know, that was totally lame. I have that song stuck in my head now though, I wish that I had Jesse's Girl...where can I find a woman like that?... Please make it end! I have always had an issue with that song because it is just not right on so many levels. That never stops me from jamming to it though :)

Ok, back to polish. Today I have Jesse's Girl *cue song again* Crush. It is quite an orange. Down here in South Florida we have no Rite Aids which is where I believe this polish is sold. I saw on their facebook page they are trying out a couple of Walgreens locations down here but I have yet to find them. I saw some swatches online and decided to buy from their website. I bought quite a few different polishes to see what they are all about. Crush is the first one I have tried.

Crush it a nice orange creme. I put this one on late through another coughing fit so the application wasn't great. I was too tired/sick to deal with cleanup so I apologize for that. This polish worked very much like a jelly for me in that it was a pain in the booty to apply. It was super streaky and I stopped at 3 coats because I gave up. There are still spots where I can see some baldness. I do not like the brush at all. It is very thin and stiff and I think accounted for some of the application issues I was having.

I put this on and immediately questioned keeping it on. I am not one to say a color doesn't look good on me but I didn't think this looked good at all. It was too late to deal with so I left it.

It has grown on me since the initial shock of wow, that is orange. I am starting to really like it now.

I intended from the beginning to check this polish out under Black Shatter. I wanted to do something different so my awesome idea was to do a strip across the nail in Shatter. My awesome idea ended up looking like tire tracks. Not quite what I intended.

I like it though! I think it looks odd. Totally looks like tire tracks. I told my son this morning that I feel the need to paint road kill under the tire tracks. You know the outline of something dead. He told me that I am definitely weird.

Is it really weird that this mani makes me think of roadkill?

Maybe I took too many long car trips when I was a kid.

I think this would make a good Halloween color. After all the chocolate making and washing of hands and cleaning and such I have a few chips and of course no acetone at work. It is driving me nuts but I am trying NOT to peel.

Overall I think I like the color but the application didn't want to play nice. I am hoping it is just this particular color and the others are friendlier.

Random spamdom

It has been a pretty hectic week. Between the cold from hell and all the baby shower chocolates I had to make I have had to change my polish really late at night at the peak of the coughing fits. Never a good thing to cough and paint nails as most ends up somewhere it doesn't belong. I also realized a post I had scheduled didn't actually post, probably operator error but who knows.

So I have some fun pictures just to make up for the lack of posting schedule this week.

I made 30 of these babies. I am TIRED too. I don't need to see baby pink or lavender for awhile now.

Because I am ill prepared I needed to run to Walmart for some ribbon. I always pick up Hard Candy Sky and put it back down and yesterday was no different. I tend to pick out the things I like and put them in my cart but by the time I make it to the register they have left the buying area. Yesterday it was Sky and Pure Ice Spit Fire that took the Walmart tour with me. When I put them back the cute one was trailing me and picked them back up. He made me take them home with us. They enjoyed the tour and the bonus new home.

Last night I was also EXTREMELY excited to get some NAIL MAIL! I have never taken the plunge and bought from a blog sale before but I came across one a week or so ago and had to jump. Unfortunately most of the things I wanted were gone by the time I emailed her but she told me to check her swap list and boy oh boy was I excited. OPI Absolutely Alice was there and still available. That sealed the deal! I had frankened this baby when I couldn't get my hands on her but still wanted the real deal. She is now mine and she is awesome! I was so excited but didn't have time to play with my new friends since baby bottles and rattles were calling. She even added the two on the far left as extras. I think I might be a blog shopper now :)

Can I just say Funky Limelight is freakin AWESOME it looks like a highlighter only much brighter! I hope it looks as good on the nail.

Cool Aid and Kool Aid fun

I grew up on Kool Aid so let me just say the name alone made me NEED this polish. I remember as kids we had that little cardboard box to collect our Kool Aid points. I had the walkman, fanny pack, cups and various other cool "prizes" you could collect those points and get. Between my brother, cousin and I we cleaned house. Can we just say Kool Aid junkies! I was sad to see that they stopped this practice. :(  BUT yesterday I was at the supermarket looking for soup (and coughing up a storm) and found Kool Aid Fun Fizz tablets. I grabbed a bag because it's Kool Aid and I had never seen this before and really I am like 10 sometimes.

Ok, you take these little tablets and plop them into a glass or bottle of water and just like Alka Seltzer they fizz. OH MY GOSH I WAS Squealing like a school girl. The boyfriend, not very amused. My son, mildly amused and my mother says "Yeah we had those when I was a kid they were called fizzies". Obviously I am the only one amused. It is freaking cool though, they have no sugar (according to my bf, I didn't really care enough to actually read the package beyond the directions), they are only 5 calories and they ROCK! I got the punch flavor though I can't taste much right now but they also had Lemonade and Grape. It has a weak carbonated taste to it which gives it a little kick beyond regular Kool Aid. The non amused bf said it tasted like flat carbonation. I like it! I thought it would be a fantastic way to go to a restaurant and order water (for free) and end up with a flavored drink, especially for kids or people like me that don't drink (much) soda. My son did request the other flavors so I think he liked it.

Alright, now that I went way off topic with the drink let's move on to the completely non consumable Cool Aid. Let me tell you though, this Cool Aid rocks about as hard as Kool Aid. I wonder how many times one can possibly say Kool (Cool) Aid in one post.

This polish was the first from a new brand called Cult Nails which was launched in January 2011. The thing I love about this brand is that it was started by a blogger and MUA member Maria. Her blog R3Daily is great! I always try to support the little guy, or gal, trying to make it in the world with the big corporations. Cult nails makes it even easier for me to support by providing an awesome product!

My Kind of Cool Aid was the first polish for this brand. It is a gorgeous grayish purple creme that has the perfect amount of shimmer. I love how this color looks more purple in some lights and then more gray in others.

These first two pictures were taken inside by the window. The lighting wasn't great and to me it looks more gray. It did in person anyway.

I stepped outside for a minute just to take the pictures and in natural light it looked more purple.

The application was great and I love the brush and bottle. Any application errors were definitely due to me coughing while I was trying to do my nails and had nothing to do with the polish. FYI violent coughing and painting your nails while sitting in bed do not work well together. I ended up with quite a mess on some of my cuticles.

Cult Nails has three other polishes out right now: Iconic, Living Waters and Quench. All four were my Valentine's Day gift from the cute one. I wore Living Waters before I started the blog and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! They will all be featured in future postings. They also have two new colors coming out for Spring (late April or May) called Devious Nature which is a bright pink and Let Me Fly which is a gorgeous teal. I can not wait!

The never ending cold

This stupid cold has angered me! Yesterday I called in sick to work, slept until 1:30 in the afternoon and took loads of medicine. I was a walking zombie for the part of the day I was awake and definitely did not even think about turning on the computer. Ok, I did think about it but I didn't get very far with it. So of course today I am still catching up from what I missed yesterday.

Last night or actually I think it might have been the night before. I could not tell you for sure because it is all a cold medicine induced fog right now. Anyway, I decided my purse was too heavy and needed to be cleaned out. Once again there was more polish in there then some stores carry.

I also had a nail incident. I swear they just hate me.After I was done making chocolates for the baby shower order and looked down to see a huge chip in the polish on my index finger. Upon closer inspection definitely not a chip but my nail had a nice little split and the nail was bent back so it looked like a chip. NOT COOL!

I don't know if you can see it in the above picture but for some reason my nails like to always break there. It angers me! Greatly! I thought I would just do a little tissue paper patch and hopefully save it for awhile.

As you can see that failed. I looked down at my nail yesterday and the nice little break was back. Usually the tissue paper works but I am assuming my cold induced fog impaired my ability to patch the darn thing. Not cool.

Because I didn't feel well at all I just chopped the dang thing off. Super nub it is! I know it looks wonky but the right side broke so low I am not willingly going to file the left side down to that level. I would rather it look silly then deal with that. I am sure it would hurt too! So please excuse the super nub. I should just make them all nubs but I am stubborn and refuse. I think I filed down the middle finger a little last night because the corner was being difficult and bending. I think they look a little more even now.

From the archives

Today I have a mani from days past! Back when Essie first came out in Walmart and various Drug Stores I had stalked Walmart for awhile until they appeared. I remember the first time I saw the display I just stood and looked. My bf insisted that I not buy any and I grumpily left empty handed.

He went back the next day and picked up Dive Bar and Coat Azure for me because those are the two I was looking for. He was so funny because he surprised me at work with them and the story of how he had to fight an old lady for the last Dive Bar. Apparently there was one left and they were both reaching for it at the same time but he got there first. He said she was saying something to him about it but because she was speaking Spanish he had no clue. He told her he was buying it and walked away. Apparently she was NOT happy.

I just liked the way this picture came out even though you can barely see the color of Dive Bar.

For some reason the pictures saved really small so they are a little fuzzy when I enlarge them.

I did a shredded tape mani with these two colors. It looked so pretty. You can see how pretty Dive Bar is in the bottle.

Will you breathe for me?

Still sick, day 562 million! Ok, it isn't that bad but it isn't fun. It is pretty bad when my boss pointed out shortly after I arrived that I actually sound like I am getting worse. I told him I feel like it too. I have spent most of the day sneezing, coughing and coughing and sneezing. I am on my last cough drop too :(  this could be disaster. He asked if I wanted to go home earlier but I declined because the bf was bringing me cold medicine. I might take him up on it now because medicine is not working!

He is spoiling me. I hope the polish works better than the medicine because the medicine has done nothing for me! I know, I only took one dose but I am still hacking up a lung and despite it's non drowsy claims I am feeling more tired than I was before.

I am going to pull a few pictures out of the archives for a mani post because I am still sporting the CND Night Factory duo. I had a ton of baby shower chocolates to make last night and between that and feeling like death I just didn't do my nails. I even have a nice chip in the index finger that I am ignoring. You know I am sick when I ignore a chip!
